Holy Week

4/26/2011

As long as we do consistently do things the same way, we never know what potential lies in other ways.

What a celebration we've had in the past week or so. Good Friday, with the contributions of all three churches in town, was really something special. All three ministers were present, and I was struck by the beauty of the body of Christ united in worship and celebration of Christ our head who holds us together. I was so moved by the South Church choir, both the song and the breadth of people within their choir. I'm so thankful that we could all gather as one family.

And then Easter Sunday, I think what delighted me most were the praises we all offered up. I loved the text I got to preach and the songs we sang, but even more, I think I loved the spontaneous praises for who God is we voiced from all over the sanctuary. God is faithful even when we're not, he answers prayer, he remains eternally the same God. My heart was stirred to worship as these praises rolled out. Thanks to all who contributed to my experience of God's perfections Sunday morning.

Palm Sunday, the Cross Walk, the early service and breakfast--all were an exciting variation to the normal flow. I hope we as a church, I as a leader in the church, and each us of as individual worshiping followers of Jesus, can be open to the different ways God sometimes draws us to know and experience him and see his glory.

He is Risen.
